Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Unveils New Mobile Command Unit

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office has introduced a new state-of-the-art Mobile Command Unit, made possible through funding from the North Carolina General Assembly.

Designed to serve as both a regional and statewide resource, the advanced unit will provide critical support during natural disasters, major incidents, and community emergencies. It enables law enforcement, fire, EMS, and emergency management personnel to operate together in one coordinated space.

“During the last hurricane, it became clear that Western North Carolina lacked sufficient mobile command resources,” said Sheriff Darren Campbell. “This new command unit ensures that our deputies and first responders can respond faster, communicate better, and protect more lives — not only in Iredell County, but anywhere in the state.”

Equipped with computer-aided dispatch systems, satellite and internet connectivity, video monitoring, and real-time communication tools, the Mobile Command Unit enhances emergency response capabilities across multiple agencies.

Sheriff Campbell expressed gratitude to the North Carolina General Assembly, Senator Vickie Sawyer, Representative Jeff McNeely, Representative Gray Mills, and Speaker Pro Tempore Representative Mitchell Setzer for their support, as well as to the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association for leading the Statewide Disaster Assistance Network.

“This is more than a vehicle — it’s a mobile lifeline for our community and for North Carolina,” Campbell said.
