On Friday, May 16, 2025, at 8:13 a.m., a call was received by Iredell County Emergency Communications from a caller, identified as Bobby Lee Collins, who said he had shot his wife around 7:00 a.m. at his home. He said he locked the door to the house when he left and had the keys in his pocket. The caller said he was currently sitting in his vehicle at the intersection of Powell Bridge Road and Harmony Highway.
Within minutes, deputies located the suspect vehicle and took Bobby Lee Collins, 70 Years Old, into custody as additional Iredell County Patrol Deputies responded to the home, where they located a female inside the house. The victim, identified as Iona Collins, was pronounced deceased by members of Iredell County EMS.
The crime scene was secured, and members of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Investigations Unit and Crime Scene Investigators arrived and executed a search warrant. Upon entering the crime scene, numerous items of evidence were identified and seized.
Bobby Lee Collins, was taken to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, where he was interviewed. Collins was charged with Murder and appeared before Magistrate M. Nethken, who issued No Bond.
The investigation is still ongoing.
