Iredell County, NC — Dr. Anthony Elkins, a family physician with Iredell Primary Care, has been awarded the prestigious Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (FACOFP) at the organization’s 62nd annual convention in Palm Springs, California.

The FACOFP designation recognizes outstanding service and leadership in the field of osteopathic family medicine. Recipients must demonstrate at least six years of active membership following residency, board certification, participation in professional organizations, and significant contributions to the field through teaching, research, or advocacy.

Dr. Elkins has practiced family medicine for over 20 years and currently teaches at Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine. He has also served in leadership roles, including as president of the North Carolina Osteopathic Medical Association and the North Carolina Society of the ACOFP.

At Iredell Primary Care, Elkins has conducted research on Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), developing a technique using osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) to help manage the condition by normalizing heart rate and reducing symptoms.

“I’m honored to care for patients in Iredell County and grateful for the opportunity to mentor the next generation of physicians,” Elkins said. “This recognition reflects my ongoing commitment to patient care and the advancement of osteopathic medicine.”

Dr. Barbara Walker of Kure Beach, NC, nominated Elkins for the award. “He’s a dedicated physician, strong leader, and role model for students,” Walker said. “It’s a privilege to see his work recognized.”

Iredell Health System congratulates Dr. Elkins on this achievement. He is currently accepting new patients at his Mooresville practice. For appointments, visit IredellPrimaryCare.com or call 980-435-0406.
