STATESVILLE, N.C. (July 17, 2025) — The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of human remains found behind a home on Newton Drive, just west of Statesville.
On Wednesday, July 16, detectives were called to the scene after receiving a report of what appeared to be human remains. Deputies arrived and confirmed the presence of skeletonized remains located behind the residence. According to investigators, the condition of the body indicates the person had been dead for a period of months.
The home did not have power, water, or other services at the time the remains were discovered.
Detectives secured the area and requested assistance from the Crime Scene Investigations Unit. An autopsy and medical examination are scheduled to take place later this week to assist with identifying the individual and determining the cause of death.
Authorities say identification is pending the results of the autopsy.
