On July 16, deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of human remains discovered behind a residence at 2336 Newton Drive in Statesville. The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Kevin Scott Queen of Statesville.

The 9-1-1 call was made by a citizen who was interested in purchasing the property. The caller believed the home was abandoned and, upon walking to the rear of the residence, observed what appeared to be human remains near the carport area. Authorities were notified immediately.

Due to the advanced state of decomposition, the individual was not initially identified at the scene. During the investigation, detectives determined that the property was not abandoned and that someone had been living there.

The remains were transported to North Carolina Baptist Hospital for an autopsy. On July 18, the deceased was positively identified as Kevin Scott Queen through medical records. Based on the findings from the autopsy and evidence recovered at the scene, investigators concluded that Mr. Queen died of natural causes.
