On April 7, 2025, community members, local officials, and school leaders gathered to break ground on the future site of Weathers Creek High School in Iredell County. The event marked a significant step forward for the Iredell-Statesville Schools district as it prepares to meet the needs of a growing student population.
Attendees included elected representatives, district administrators, and community leaders. Among those who spoke at the ceremony were Dr. Jeff James, Superintendent of Iredell-Statesville Schools; Dr. Doug Knight, Chairman of the Board of Education; Todd Carver from the North Carolina House of Representatives; Gene Houpe, Iredell County Commissioner; David Morais, President of Adams + Associates; and Jeremy Tilley, Project Executive with Montieth.
The event recognized the support of the Iredell County Commissioners, as well as the contributions of Our Schools First and the Iredell-Statesville Facilities Task Force. Their combined efforts played a key role in advancing the project to this milestone.
The ceremony concluded with a traditional groundbreaking using shovels and hard hats, accompanied by a celebratory display to mark the occasion. Weathers Creek High School is expected to serve as a significant addition to the district’s educational facilities.
