A former school board member in Iredell and Statesville, North Carolina, Max Ralston James, Jr., has been indicted on felony charges, according to multiple local news sources.

At age 63, James (residing in the Olin area, Tabor Road) faces two felony counts: attempted obstruction of justice and conspiracy.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) conducted the probe. A special agent presented evidence to an Iredell County grand jury, which found probable cause and returned an indictment.

James was arrested Friday, processed at the Iredell County Detention Center, but released upon posting bond of $8,000. He is due in Iredell County Superior Court on December 15, 2025.

District Attorney Sarah Kirkman confirmed the indictment but declined further comment, citing the pending nature of the case.
