Former Daycare Worker in Conover Accused of Assaulting Multiple Children

Authorities in Conover have charged a former daycare worker with multiple counts of assault involving young children at the Woodlawn Baptist Child Development Center.

According to police, Kaleigh Gambill has been charged with eight counts of assault on a child. The case involves seven children, all under the age of four. Parents have confirmed that Gambill was a teacher in the 2-year-old classroom at the facility.

Church officials stated that they became aware of the allegations in December after a complaint was reported to the North Carolina Division of Child Development. In response, the church reviewed two weeks’ worth of surveillance footage from inside the facility. After evaluating the video evidence, Gambill was terminated from her position, and the footage was turned over to law enforcement.

Jail records indicate that Gambill was released after posting an $80,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
