Ford Recalls Over 270,000 SUVs for Brake System Issue

by | May 15, 2025

Ford Motor Company has announced a recall of 273,789 vehicles in the United States due to a potential brake system defect that could reduce braking performance and increase the risk of crashes.

The recall affects 223,315 Ford Expeditions and 50,474 Lincoln Navigators from model years 2022 through 2024. According to a report submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), brake fluid may leak in some of these vehicles because the front brake lines could come into contact with the engine air cleaner outlet pipe, causing damage.

Ford estimates that only about 1 percent of the recalled vehicles are likely to have the defect. The company stated it is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the issue.

Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the affected brake lines and engine air cleaner outlet pipes at no cost to the vehicle owner. Notification letters are expected to begin mailing on May 26, 2025.

Vehicle owners can check whether their vehicle is included in the recall by visiting nhtsa.gov/recalls or by contacting Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. NHTSA can also be reached at 1-888-327-4236.

Drivers may notice increased pedal travel or a red brake warning light if brake fluid has leaked, according to the recall notice.

Earlier this year, Ford also recalled approximately 240,000 Explorer and Lincoln Aviator SUVs from model years 2020 and 2021 due to improperly secured seat belt anchors. No accidents or injuries were reported in connection with that recall.
