Ford recalls nearly 273,000 Bronco Sports and Mavericks

by | Jan 24, 2025

Ford Motor Company has announced a safety recall affecting approximately 272,817 vehicles, including the 2022–2023 Ford Maverick and 2021–2023 Ford Bronco Sport models. The issue involves the vehicles’ 12-volt batteries, which may experience internal weld or cast-on-strap failures. These defects could lead to sudden battery degradation while driving, posing a potential safety risk.

If the battery suddenly degrades during operation, it could prevent the vehicle from restarting after an auto stop/start event or cause the vehicle to stall while slowing to a stop at low speeds. In addition, the loss of the 12-volt battery’s functionality may disable accessories, including hazard lights, which are critical in emergency situations.

Ford will notify affected vehicle owners via mail with instructions to bring their vehicle to an authorized Ford or Lincoln dealer for inspection. The inspection will confirm whether a Ford Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) 12V battery is installed. If the battery is not a Ford AGM model, the dealer will replace it at no cost to the owner.

For those who paid out-of-pocket for repairs related to this issue before being notified of the recall, Ford’s reimbursement plan may cover eligible costs. This plan was first outlined in May 2023. Owners should retain receipts and proof of repair to facilitate the reimbursement process.

The recall highlights the importance of promptly addressing potential safety concerns. Ford encourages owners of the affected vehicles to schedule an inspection as soon as they receive notification.
