Statesville Mayor Constantine H. Kutteh has ordered that the United States and North Carolina flags at all municipal buildings be lowered to half-staff beginning Thursday, August 14, 2025, in honor of Caroline Hayes Bentley, the spouse of former Statesville Mayor Dr. Ralph Bentley.
According to the city, Bentley was active in community service, assisting with clothing and food distribution, supporting non-English speakers through the “each one teach one” method, participating in the Daughters of the American Revolution, contributing to historic preservation projects, and engaging in church and community activities.
Flags will remain at half-staff through August 17, 2025.
