The Statesville Police Department is investigating a fatal collision that occurred early Friday morning on Davie Avenue.
At approximately 6:00 a.m. on May 9, emergency personnel responded to a traffic incident involving a 2024 Volkswagen and an electric scooter. According to the initial findings, Matthew Miller, 39, of Lenoir, was driving the Volkswagen when the vehicle collided with the scooter.
The individual operating the scooter sustained critical injuries and was transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital, where they were later pronounced deceased. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of their next of kin.
Police investigators remained at the scene to collect evidence and interview witnesses. The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
