On Thursday, July 17, 2025, at approximately 3:20 p.m., the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible drowning in Lake Norman, near Catalina Drive in the Mooresville area.
Upon arrival, deputies were informed that a 16-year-old male had been swimming in the lake and had not resurfaced. The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Lake Patrol Unit initiated a search, deploying sonar equipment and a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). Additional support was provided by local fire departments and the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.
At around 6:43 p.m., the ROV located the body of the missing teen, identified as Kaleb Lamar Shields. His body was recovered from the water and transported to shore.
Sheriff Darren Campbell issued a statement expressing sympathy, saying, “We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the young individual whose life was lost today.”
