STATESVILLE, N.C. — Deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office recovered stolen construction equipment and arrested a suspect following an investigation on Peppercorn Lane earlier this week.

On November 6, 2025, deputies responded to reports of a John Deere backhoe and other items left abandoned in a field. Upon investigation, officers determined the equipment had been stolen out of Mecklenburg County several weeks earlier.

While detectives were processing the scene, a vehicle approached but quickly attempted to leave after spotting law enforcement. Deputies stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as 30-year-old Brett Michael Myers of Statesville.

According to investigators, Myers admitted he had arrived to retrieve the stolen backhoe. He was taken into custody and charged with Felony Possession of Stolen Property and Misdemeanor Resist, Delay, and Obstruct a Public Officer.

Myers was booked into the Iredell County Detention Center and held without bond on the felony charge. The investigation remains active, and officials say additional charges are possible.
