Construction begins today at the former Parrish Tire building at the corner of Tradd Street and Front Street in Statesville. The project includes an expansion of the Statesville Police Department and the addition of a new parking deck.
Two cranes will be onsite, and barricades will block all access to the parking lot. A full construction fence is expected to be in place by the end of the week. Parking at the site is no longer available.
Drivers who have been using the lot to bypass the nearby sinkhole detour will need to find an alternative route, as turnarounds will no longer be possible.
Sinkhole repairs at Tradd and Front are scheduled to begin next week. The city will announce a start date once it is confirmed.
The sidewalk in front of the old Parrish Tire building will also close soon. Pedestrians are asked to use the opposite side of Front Street for safety.
This will be an active construction zone for the foreseeable future. While nearby businesses remain open, the public is encouraged to avoid the area unless visiting those locations. Stay alert for updates.
