Successive days of extreme heat are putting a strain on the area’s electric grid, causing unusually high energy demand and limiting reserve supplies.
Statesville Public Power announced it is actively managing available resources and is urging customers to help reduce energy use to protect the electric grid and lower the risk of temporary outages. The City of Statesville encourages energy conservation as an important measure to support a reliable power supply for the community.
Customers can help conserve energy, especially during the peak hours of 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., by making a few adjustments:
– Adjust thermostats to the highest comfortable setting. The closer the indoor temperature is to the outdoor temperature, the less strain it places on the system.
– Delay the use of large appliances such as washers, dryers, and dishwashers until after 8 p.m.
– Use a microwave or cooktop instead of an oven, or consider grilling outside to reduce indoor temperatures.
– Limit the use of nonessential electronics, lighting, and other devices.
– Charge electric vehicles and battery-powered equipment overnight or early in the day.
While it can be challenging to reduce cooling during periods of high temperatures, every effort can make a difference. Statesville Public Power encourages the community to do its part to help maintain a reliable electric supply during this time.
