Statesville City Manager Ron Smith shared his October update with City Council during the meeting on Monday, October 6, 2025. From major construction progress and public safety updates to park improvements and upcoming fall events, there is a lot happening across Statesville.
Public safety officials responded quickly this week after a contractor struck a gas line on Broad Street. The incident prompted temporary road closures on Broad and Green Streets and brief evacuations of nearby residents. The Statesville Fire Department cleared the scene after ensuring the area was safe.
Several major construction and infrastructure projects continue across the city.
Work on the Statesville Police Department Expansion and Parking Deck is progressing, with a crane now in place for parking deck construction. Tradd Street will remain closed for about six weeks while pre-cast materials are offloaded. Demolition is underway at the Police Department, including the removal of the lower-level awning and basement entrance.
At the Statesville Regional Airport, the third-floor balcony roof has been completed, keeping the terminal project on track for a late December 2025 completion.
Fire Station 5 is advancing its hiring process, with 70 applicants recently completing the agility course. Engineering teams are finalizing renovation plans and will soon present cost estimates to City Council.
Design, environmental testing, and electrical upgrades continue at the Municipal Operations Center, which will eventually consolidate Public Works and Public Utilities operations.
In Parks and Recreation, the playground installation at Kimbrough Park is complete, with a new shelter expected to arrive in November. Construction has started on four pickleball courts at Martin Luther King Jr. Park, with concrete pouring expected soon. Site planning is underway for improvements at Newtonville, and new projectors and screens are being installed in each great hall at the Statesville Civic Center.
Public Works and Utilities reports that the 2025 Street Resurfacing Project is complete. Sidewalk improvements on Alexander and Stockton Streets are expected to finish by November, and crews will soon begin fence and wall work at the Flats. The Waterline Spline Project continues with planned road closures through mid-October on Stockton Street, Brookdale Drive, and Hartness Road.
At the South Yadkin Pump Station, conduit installation is underway, and new pumps are expected to ship by mid-October. A new Outage Management System is also being implemented to provide residents with real-time outage maps and text alerts by the end of the year. Residents are encouraged to update their contact information by calling 704-878-3564 or visiting the city’s website.
