A North Carolina Department of Transportation contractor will begin work next week to replace an aging bridge in Iredell County.
R.E. Burns & Sons is scheduled to start Monday, August 25, on a $1.5 million project to replace the 63-year-old bridge over Third Creek on Wood Bridge Road. The new bridge will include wider lanes, a shoulder, and will not have any weight restrictions.
During construction, a signed detour will direct drivers along U.S. 64 and Island Ford Road. The project is expected to be completed in fall 2026.
