The North Carolina General Assembly is considering legislation that would allocate $500,000 from the General Fund to explore the feasibility of establishing a professional wrestling museum in the state.
Under the proposed bill, the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources would receive the funding for the 2025-2026 fiscal year to conduct the study. The department would then present its findings and recommendations to the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Agriculture and Natural and Economic Resources by July 1, 2026.
The initiative aims to recognize professional wrestling’s cultural impact and historical significance while fostering public awareness and interest in the sport. If passed, the act would take effect on July 1, 2025.
