Statesville, NC – On May 6, 2025, the Statesville Police Department responded to a reported assault in the 1000 block of Old Charlotte Road. Upon arrival, officers located two individuals who reported being approached by two unknown suspects while walking along the road. The suspects demanded their cellphones and, after being denied, physically assaulted both individuals. One victim’s cellphone was taken during the incident, while the other was able to retain theirs.
The suspects fled north on Old Charlotte Road following the altercation. Both victims were transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. One individual sustained a fractured jaw, and the other required surgery for injuries to the nose and eye. The second victim was later transferred to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.
The Statesville Police Department’s Violent Crime Unit initiated an investigation at the scene. In the days that followed, evidence was gathered leading to the identification of one suspect: 39-year-old Detrick Dontay Hamilton of Statesville.
Warrants were issued for Hamilton on multiple charges, including two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, robbery with a dangerous weapon, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony conspiracy, and assault on a female.
On May 9, 2025, investigators located Hamilton near the Fifth Street Ministries. After surveillance units observed him entering a vehicle, a traffic stop was conducted at Old Charlotte Road and Power Street. Hamilton was taken into custody without incident. Due to the nature of the charges, he was held without bond following an appearance before a magistrate.
