by | Jun 6, 2025

American Airlines has officially launched its first nonstop flight from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) to Athens International Airport (ATH), expanding its transatlantic network and offering travelers a direct connection between North Carolina and the Greek capital.

The new route, which began service on June 5, 2025, operates daily and is now the longest commercial flight American Airlines offers from Charlotte, with an approximate duration of 10 hours and 30 minutes. This addition strengthens the airline’s European schedule and aims to meet growing demand for international travel from the southeastern United States.

Airport officials view the new service as a significant milestone, enhancing Charlotte’s status as a key international gateway. The route is expected to support both tourism and business travel, offering greater convenience for travelers headed to one of Europe’s most historic destinations.

Passengers on the first flight were welcomed with a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony at the departure gate. The launch marks a step forward in American Airlines’ broader strategy to expand its global footprint and provide more direct international options to its customers.
