Iredell County, NC — In the early hours of Thursday, January 16, 2025, deputies from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting at the intersection of Wiggins Road and Mount Ulla Highway. The call, received around 3:15 a.m., led officers to a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen.

Emergency medical services provided care at the scene before transporting the victim to a local hospital. According to investigators, the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute, and the victim and suspect were known to one another.

Evidence and interviews conducted by detectives and crime scene investigators identified the suspect as 33-year-old John Dexter Wines. Authorities say Wines followed the victim’s vehicle, blocked it at the intersection, and initiated a confrontation. During the altercation, Wines allegedly shot the victim before fleeing the scene in the direction of Rowan County.
