NCDMV Extends Hours

by | Apr 1, 2025

The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) is set to extend service hours at driver license offices across the state beginning April 7. An additional 42 offices will open an hour earlier at 7 a.m., joining 50 other offices that already offer extended hours. This adjustment means that 80% of the state’s 115 driver license offices will now operate from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

According to DMV Commissioner Wayne Goodwin, the expansion is part of ongoing efforts to accommodate the state’s growing population. The division has steadily increased early openings since September 2022, when the number of offices opening at 7 a.m. rose from 25 to 35. The number continued to grow, reaching 50 by September 2024.

The offices beginning early hours on April 7 include locations in Ahoskie, Albemarle, Boone, Burgaw, Edenton, Elizabethtown, Elkin, Forest City, Franklin, Hamlet, Havelock, Henderson, Hudson, Jefferson, Kenansville, Laurinburg, Lincolnton, Louisburg, Marion, Mocksville, Morganton, Mount Airy, Mount Holly, Nags Head, Oxford, Polkton, Roanoke Rapids, Rocky Mount, Roxboro, Sanford, Shallotte, Siler City, Smithfield, Statesville, Stedman, Taylorsville, Thomasville, Troy, Whiteville, Wilkesboro, Wilson, and Yadkinville.

Additionally, the NCDMV will reinstate its summer Saturday walk-in service hours later this year. Services will be available at 20 locations from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays between June 7 and August 23, except on July 5. New locations offering Saturday hours include Elizabeth City, Clayton, Durham East, and Kernersville. The Raleigh East office will replace the Raleigh North location for Saturday operations.

Commissioner Goodwin emphasized the department’s commitment to meeting the increased demand, stating that efforts will continue to enhance service availability with existing resources.
