CLEVELAND, N.C. — A Cleveland man faces multiple drug trafficking and related charges after police say a late-night traffic stop led to a high-speed pursuit across county lines.
According to the Cleveland Police Department, the incident began just before midnight on Friday, December 5, 2025. Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling along U.S. Highway 70 after observing it fail to maintain its lane, a violation that raised concerns of possible driver impairment.
Police identified the driver as Tyrell Montice Tate, who officers say initially complied but later attempted to flee. When officers requested that he step out of the vehicle, Tate reportedly put the vehicle in drive and sped away. A pursuit followed through Iredell County and into Davie County.
Authorities say Tate was seen throwing multiple bags out of his vehicle during the chase. Deputies with the Davie County Sheriff’s Office deployed stop sticks, disabling the vehicle. Tate then crashed just inside the Mocksville city limits and was taken into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported.
A search of the vehicle uncovered ecstasy, cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to the report. Tate was transported before a magistrate and formally charged with trafficking in MDA/MDMA, trafficking in cocaine, felony possession of marijuana, altering or destroying criminal evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to maintain lane control, fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, resisting a public officer, reckless driving to endanger and speeding.
His bond was set at $300,000.
Police expressed appreciation for the cooperation of partner agencies that assisted in the pursuit and arrest.
