NCDOT Reduces Speed Limit on Rocky River Road to 35 MPH

by | Oct 10, 2025

The Town of Mooresville is alerting residents and drivers to a recent speed limit change implemented by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) along Rocky River Road.

According to the announcement, the speed limit for the entire stretch of Rocky River Road has been reduced from 45 miles per hour to 35 miles per hour. The change is now in effect, and new signage has been posted along the roadway to reflect the updated speed limit.

The adjustment follows an NCDOT traffic study that evaluated traffic volume, crash data, and development patterns in the area. Over the past several years, Rocky River Road has experienced steady growth in residential neighborhoods, schools, and nearby commercial areas, leading to an increase in both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

Town officials say the lower speed limit is intended to enhance safety for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians alike. Drivers are encouraged to use extra caution and adjust their travel habits to comply with the new limit, especially in areas where sightlines may be limited or where turning traffic is frequent.

Law enforcement will be monitoring the area to help ensure compliance and promote safe driving behaviors as drivers adjust to the change.

Residents and commuters are reminded to stay alert to posted signs and travel at safe speeds at all times. The Town of Mooresville appreciates the community’s cooperation in helping maintain safety for everyone who travels along Rocky River Road.
