Iredell County, NC — The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Iredell County and portions of northeast Georgia, the North Carolina Piedmont and western areas, as well as Upstate South Carolina.
The advisory currently in effect runs from noon today until 8 p.m. EDT this evening, with a second advisory scheduled from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. EDT on Tuesday. A previous advisory expired at 2 a.m. early this morning.
Forecasts indicate dangerously high heat index values — reaching up to 107 degrees today and potentially rising to 108 degrees on Tuesday.
The combination of high temperatures and humidity may increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for vulnerable populations and individuals working outdoors or in non-air-conditioned environments.
Officials urge residents to take precautions such as staying hydrated, limiting time outdoors, wearing lightweight clothing, and checking on neighbors, especially the elderly and those without access to cooling. Pets should also be provided with plenty of water and shade.
Further updates will be provided as conditions develop.
