During overnight work on the ongoing Waterline Replacement Project in Statesville, contractors encountered unexpected issues that required the temporary use of reserve water supplies. As a result, water service was briefly interrupted. Impacted residents and businesses have been notified, and full service is expected to be restored shortly.
Following the restoration of service, some customers may experience brown or discolored water caused by sediment being stirred in the lines. If discoloration occurs, residents are advised to run cold water from a bathtub or outdoor spigot for several minutes until the water clears. It is also recommended to avoid using hot water during this time to prevent sediment from entering water heaters.
If water does not clear after 5 to 10 minutes of flushing, wait 30 minutes and try again. While the water remains safe to use, officials acknowledge the appearance may be unappealing.
For continued concerns, residents may contact the City of Statesville Water Department at 704-878-3417.
The city thanks the public for its patience and cooperation as work continues on this essential infrastructure project.
