Iredell County Sees Slight Rise in Unemployment for May, Remains Below State Average

by | Jul 3, 2025

Unemployment in Iredell County ticked up slightly in May, mirroring a statewide trend that saw jobless rates increase in the majority of North Carolina counties.

According to data released by the North Carolina Department of Commerce, Iredell County posted a not-seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate of 3.4% for May 2025. This marks a modest increase from April’s rate of 3.1%.

Statewide, North Carolina’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.7% for the month. However, unemployment rates increased in 93 of the state’s 100 counties, decreased in four, and remained the same in three.

Despite the month-over-month rise, Iredell County continues to maintain a jobless rate below the state average. Economic observers point out that seasonal factors, such as school-year employment shifts and adjustments in construction and retail hiring, may be influencing the short-term increase.

The county’s labor market has shown resilience over the past year, supported by ongoing growth in sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, and health services.

Officials expect to continue monitoring employment trends closely, especially as summer labor dynamics take shape and updated June data becomes available in mid-July.

Unemployment Overview – May 2025:

  • Iredell County: 3.4% (not seasonally adjusted)
  • North Carolina: 3.7% (seasonally adjusted)
